Get your Lawn ready for winterSep 15/03
Now is the time to start thinking about preparing your
lawns for winter. As the days get shorter and cooler it is best to start
progressively cutting your grass length a little shorter. Do it in a couple
of stages so that the last cutting will not be too shocking to the
plants. Cutting the blades shorter at this time of year won't harm the
plants because the days are shorter and the sun is less intense,
in fact you will be gradually forcing the grass plants to toughen up their roots
in preparation for the frozen ground this winter. When the blades are shorter at
the start of freeze up the plants will suffer less damage from the weight of
snow and ice on them, you are also allowing for the continued slow growth of the
plants until we eventually get freeze up.
